While we haven't quite yet bid farewell to January, it's already starting to be time to make plans for February, which is one of the busiest times of the year event-wise for the Sarasota area, including some of our biggest annual festivities.

Bradenton Area River Regatta, "Manatee County's biggest and best civic event," will return in February, as will Sarasota's Thunder by the Bay Music & Motorcycle Festival, Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival, and Venice Italian Feast and Carnival. There'll also be multiple Major League Baseball teams starting their spring training seasons locally, and Valentine's Day celebrations including a wedding vow renewal on Sarasota County beaches. Then there'll be plenty of the concerts, comedy shows, stage productions, art exhibitions and other events our area hosts year-round.

Here are more than 100 things to do in Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties, presented in chronological order. Event details are subject to change.

Scottish Highland Games & Celtic Festival

‘A Salute to the Pops’

The Venice Symphony celebrates the legacy of conductor Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra with this concert that features some of that group’s best arrangements. Heroic Spirit

Sarasota Orchestra’s Music Director designate Giancarlo Guerrero leads this Masterworks concert with guest violinist Anne Akiko Meyers performing Marquez’s Fandango for Violin and Orchestra. ‘Quintessential’

The Sarasota Ballet offers a world premiere by Gemma Bond, who previously created “Excursions” and “Panoramic Score” for the company. She has crafted her new work to music by Rachmaninov. It’s part of a triple bill with Renato Paroni’s “Rococo Variations,” using music by Tchaikovsky, and Paul Taylor’s “Brandenburgs,” set to music by Bach. Players 95th anniversary soiree

‘Twelfth Night’
