  • You're struggling to revamp your resume layout. How can you conquer the overwhelming task?

People (and recruiters) visually track their eyes on a page starting top righ to top left then down the page. Arrange the most I,portent info in that order using the top third of the age for the most important information for recruiters to read,

  • You're aiming to stand out with your resume design. How do you balance creativity with ATS compatibility?

We all agree that the content is king in a resume. However, if you have a great quote or table on your resume I suggest testing it with the ATS. If the ATS wants a PDF version of your resume the quote or graphic is captured as a picture and displayed. If you upload your resume and it gets parsed into separate data fields the quote or table will most likely be ignored and the rest of data will be imported. Test this first! (I tested Workday and that's what happened) if you are nervous about graphics remove them. I realize thus is slightly controversial but I wanted to share that it's possible.

  • You're overwhelmed by your lengthy resume. How can you trim it down without losing your valuable experiences?

I’ve rewritten resumes that sphere up to 20 pages! These longer resumes are usually in the form of stories or narratives.some folks don’t quite have the editing skills but they know what they do. For super long resumes I pick through the job stories and come up with a single phrase. Then I either move the phrase to a job summary ( describes what you do) or an accomplishment (describes what you have done). I do this for the whole resume then reassemble.

  • You're crafting your resume summary. How can you inject personality while staying professional?

Resume summaries should be pretty straightforward. You can add a little personality by your use of verbs at the beginning of each sentence. Enthusiastic about…. Interested in….Passionate about….Expert in….it can give the reader a hint into what makes the candidate tick

  • You're crafting your resume for a job application. How do you select the most relevant keywords to include?

I have heard that recruiters only use 2 or 3 keywords when doing a candidate search in their ATS. I spend a minute or two ‘thinking like a recruiter’ to choose the top keywords I think they will search on. I make sure these keywords are in the resume.

  • You're trying to impress a tech startup recruiter with your cover letter. How do you craft it to stand out?

Startups are fast-paced. They need talent that's willing to move, shake, and make decisions. They need talent that's willing to pitch, wear many hats, and address and handle change in a positive manner. For a start-up I would be enthusiastic, energetic, and focus on ability to pivot and change in an uncertain environment.

  • Judy Bolton Helpful Hint: If you see a job posting with a LOT of applicants already having applied to it, please don't let that stop you from applying IF you have read _and_ you meet the minimum qualifications. (My positions are with the government; you have to meet the minimum quals.) Lots of applicants ≠ lots of _qualified_ applicants. 6

  • Dean Norman NetSuite job seekers - the job market is hotting up. If you are not getting interviews from job applications, or being approached by recruiters about opportunities here are some top tips to help: 👀 Review your resume - is it clear what you do and what you are best at. Can you or something else see your strengths within a few seconds of opening it. Be careful to not overcrowd it and add in everything on one page. Think of what you see straight away and how relevant that is. 🎯 LinkedIn - everyone uses LinkedIn to help source talent. Make sure your LinkedIn, like your resume, is clear and details what you do clearly. Detail the projects you have worked on, and use industry-specific language. Top it up by listing keywords and adding "skills" in the section offered by LinkedIn. Include contact details or use LinkedIn premium services to make it easier to be contacted. 👩‍💻 📞 Recruiters / Events - you might have seen a previous post of mine where the majority of jobs were found through working with a recruiter or from a referral. Reach out and network with a recruiter who is a true specialist in your position. Look for the longevity of that recruiter. If they haven't been in your specific area for more than a few years, they likely don't have the network to truly help you. Find your local NetSuite User Group and attend an event. Most run in-person and virtual events regularly. 🔍 Job Adverts - Less than 10% of NetSuite professionals found a job this way. You will likely go into a pile of over 100 applications. Make sure you stand out if you are applying. Interact with the hiring manager and talent team on socials. Follow up. 99% of applications will not follow up.Is there anything else you would recommend? 15 1 Comment

  • Terry Petzold The Bureau of Labor Statistics' jobs report has demonstrated inconsistencies for at least the past year, which may account for the discrepancies we observe between the report and trends in the corporate and white-collar sectors. It is worth reflecting on how a more accurate representation of these numbers might have influenced the economic strategies and Federal Reserve responses to inflation and recession concerns at that timeversus the market and talent downfall we've witnessed over the past 12 months.“Notably, the main sources of the downward revision were white-collar sectors...”https://lnkd.in/gYUD9HCmhttps://lnkd.in/gHnaN7gH 11 1 Comment
